Great Lakes Blend was developed in the mid-1980's by two Michigan veterinarians concerned with the high incidence of DOD*, in foals born in the Great Lakes Region.

 

Their research, which paralleled studies done at Ohio State University and The University of Nebraska, found that the absence of trace minerals selenium, copper, zinc and magnesium in equine diets, was a major factor in the incidence of  DOD*, along with heredity, and rapid growth from overfeeding.

Great Lakes Blend is formulated to meet the complete vitamin and mineral requirements (except calcium and phosphorous, because their required levels are dependent on the content of  the hay that you feed) of horses residing in the Great Lakes Region. Nationally marketed supplements do not approach minimum NRC levels as they are also sold in areas that are rich in certain minerals that can cause toxicity problems.

Great Lakes Blend , has proven successful in helping prevent DOD*. In the test phase it  was  found that it not only benefited  pregnant mares and foals, but also young growing horses, working horses, stallions and pleasure horses in the form of:

                                                          improved coats
